In Richard Rodriguez's eassy Spanish was private and English was public. "In public, my father and mother spoke a hesitant, accented, not always grammatical English."(49) He also states "like others, who know the pain of public alienation, we transformed the knowledge of our public separateness". (53) Speaking English to him was something hard to do. He felt like an alien and separated from his culture he once knew. Speaking English made him feel like he is losing a part of himself. The sound of his voice when he spoke English felt wrong, the accent and pronunciation. Made him wonder am I correct. That's why he felt like an outsider in a different world. His private language which is Spanish made him feel comfortable and normal. The language he spoke at home. In his eassy he writes about a game the family would play at dinner time. They would make different words up half english and spanish.. This is how they would learn the public language. Doing this made them all feel at ease learning something new.

Are the words Public and Private related tothe issue of bilingual education. In the eassy Public and Private language
Language is the human ability to communicate with one another. We relate to each other verbally and non verbally. In Public and Private Language by Richard Rodriguez he uses the words public and private to show his difficulties with English Language, the way it effected his life, and his experience with bilingual education.
In Richard Rodriguez's eassy Spanish was private and English was public. "Supporters of bilingual education today imply that students like me miss a great deal by not being taught in their family's language"(53) He agrees in his eassy that a bilingual education was helpful for him. It helped him to get more acquainted with English. Which was like public to him. Does public and private relate to the issue of a bilingual education. They are related without public you cannot have private. Teaching the students the public language will make them feel more normal, rather than outsider. The once public language will be normal for them. Having a bilingual education makes it easy to fit in your new environment .You will not feel separated. But a unique individually, knowing two languages.

Do you think students need a "winter break"
Having a winter break from school is consider, a great idea to me. Students do need that time away from school to recollect and put their perosnal issues together. During my winter break I was able sort out all my bills, spend more time with the family. And reconnect with the world. Also having a winter break from school gives us extra time needed to complete assignments, catch up on our reading assignmnets and orgainze our school work. We also don't have to stress about school for a while and relax and most importanly recharge for the days that are ahead of us in school. It is important to have a break from school. To be able to reconncet with our families and the world.
